Incredibly compact- The Samsung SCX 4521 printer is incredibly compact considering that it’s a multi-function device with latest print, scan, fax and copy technology. Boasting with super small footprint measurements of 14.5×17x14.7 inches and weighing in at a light 10 Kilograms. Consumers love investing in products that de-clutter their home or office environment and this is exactly what the product does.
Quality control- Unfortunately quality is compromised by the incredible price of US$250.00 for this multi-function device. It really is not a good investment if the products’ quality suffers in order to make the product as cheap as possible. Text quality is okay for everyday printing with characters being clean and clear at even microscopic size. If you need to print to impress in the form of a presentation or other formal document, rather invest in an extra printer in another model or make. Graphics and photo quality is poor with flaws visible to the naked eye. Dithering is a common occurrence.
Media Type and size- Print media sizes compatible with the printer are Legal, A4, Letter, Folio, Exec, JIS, A4, A5 and A6. Media sizes for fax and copy purposes are Letter, Legal and A4. Media types accepted are Plain, Transparency, Labels, Cards and envelopes. Prints as well as copies are produced at speeds of 20 pages per minute at 600×600 dpi. First print or copy out-time is a mere 11 seconds from standby mode, thus there is very little warm-up time required.
Operating systems- All major operating systems are accepted by the printer and software, including Windows, Linux and Apple Macintosh. Super news for both Apple and Linux users who often struggle with system compatibility issues.
Noise- If you hate printer noise rather steer clear from the Samsung SCX 4521 printer as it one of the noisiest printers on the market. Unfortunately there’s no long term solution or quick fix for reducing or eliminating the noise, you will either have to get use to it or not buy it at all.
Connectivity- The printer comes standard with both modern and as dated connection options in the form of USB 1.1, USB 2.0 and Parallel port. Note that cables are not included with your purchase. Ethernet 10/100 for networking purposes is available as an optional extra.
Possible problems- Scan quality is terrible with uneven contract areas on the scanned document. The output paper tray has a tendency to spill prints in large quantities. Paper jamming is also a common problem encountered with the printer. Fixing the problem is quick and easy with no need for total dismantling of the printer due to the ease of paper access.
Toner- Samsung SCX 4521 printer toner cartridge is included with your purchase. Replacement with normal Printer toner cartridge with approximate capacity of 3000 pages will be required soon as print capacity is extremely limited at 1000 pages. What I believe is that there is nothing better than Samsung that can serve you better. The Samsung printer are won accolades for its effective performance, printing speed, printing quality, resolution and many more. I have been using a Samsung printer from past six years and have never came across any problem .
Had this machine about two weeks now. Right out of the box I had it set up and networked to two computers including software installation in about 30 minutes. Not one miscue since. Has processed everything including card stock and multi-label sheets with ease. I especially like the intuitive front panel button arrangement and bright color LCD display. The sleep mode saves energy which is a plus. I’m using a wired network but like the wireless capability should my needs change.
